Le cours MLL 317 Topics in French Language, Literature and Film: Paris in Literature, Film, and Songs (GenEd in Case studies in Textual Analysis) sera WIC, 4 cr. à partir du semestre de printemps 2021.
Nouvelle description du cours:
This course explores the French capital through the different perspectives offered by writers, filmmakers, songwriters, and other artists who have shaped significant literary and artistic trends and movements. More than just a theme, the city has even become a character in its own right in the poems, short stories, and novels of many great French authors. The main focus of the course are literary works, films, and songs, which have portrayed Paris in a variety of perspectives from the 19th century up to the present days. Students will read representative texts from the period, such as works by Stendhal, Victor Hugo, Charles Baudelaire, Guillaume Apollinaire, Patrick Modiano, Marguerite Duras, and Annie Ernaux. They will be exposed to the literary and artistic movements through readings, presentations, virtual museum tours, songs, and films. Students will expand and fine-tune their analytical skills through discussion and composition in French.
Prerequisites: ENG 102, a Principles of Textual Analysis course, and proficiency in French at the upper-intermediate level (which may be satisfied with MLL 216, MLL 217, or a placement test). MLL 217 is recommended for the Principles of Textual Analysis course. WIC. Gen. Ed.: Case Studies of Textual Analysis. Cr. 4 (8 ECTS Cr.)
